SHAPE YOUR OWN FUTURE
In the 20th century, architectural design advanced by leaps and bounds by considering nature first. In the 21st century, Uniphorm is doing that for our bodies. Times have changed since 1889, but bras haven’t—until now.
Yasmina Khan, our founder, is an architect and computational designer with a background in engineering. In 2017 she designed custom furniture for Kanye West's Yeezy Studio with creative director Willo Perron. After many years designing hyper custom things in furniture and architecture, Yasmina worked as a freelance creative director for Lizzo and Megan Thee Stallion. It was working with these women that inspired Yasmina to shift her focus to custom form-fitting garments. By using code and technology to build custom bras, Yasmina hopes to pave the way for democratizing custom fashion at large.
Uniphorm isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s not many-sizes-fit-some (but nobody well). Uniphorm is: your bra fits you. Because we made it from a scan of your actual body, designed with options to enhance your natural beauty the way you choose.
We create your custom piece using computational architecture software from a 3d image you can easily scan in the privacy of your own home. Our core idea is simple: the best fit model for your garment is you, and Uniphorm’s technology makes this possible.
Uniphorm’s ethos is simple:
Everyone should have the power to shape their own identity.
We can make beautiful garments for every body.
We can use technology mindfully to reduce waste and make our lives better.
HOW IT STARTED
UNIPHORM started as an experiment to help a friend who felt so uncomfortable in her body that she was considering breast reduction surgery. We started working on hyper custom pieces for friends with unique needs. We made a chest binder for someone who wanted to compress their naturally large breasts. We made bras to create the appearance of symmetry of one client who had a lot of asymmetry. That’s when we decided to widen our client-base.
HOW IT'S GOING
We believe that all bodies need custom support and that standard sizing produces waste and discomfort. We set out on a four-year journey to create a completely customizable, supportive, or compressive bra that would fit any body. We submitted patents to the US Govt and we tested our bras on people of all different shapes and sizes. With the data from our first clients, we developed algorithms to automate our custom bra-making process. We use the feedback from our clients to improve our algorithms.
We’re so grateful that you are joining us on our journey. This marks the beginning of our Generation 0 product line.
WHAT ARE THE BRAS MADE OF?
Our 3D printing material is made from a biodegradable, recyclable plastic. It feels like leather, but it's not made from animals. We've been working hard to develop a moisture-wicking pattern made from this material. Our SuperMesh SportsBra was designed using this technology.
We create your custom piece using computational architecture software from a 3D image you can easily scan in the privacy of your own home. Our core idea is simple: the best fit model for your garment is you, and Uniphorm’s technology makes this possible.
Our algorithms are continually updated. That means each new generation of products is improved by our clients’ data and feedback.
The root of the problem in fashion is that manufacturing is still based on the inventory model and works on predicted demand. It's no secret that the industry's overproduction rate is staggering, ranging between 30 and 40 percent in any given season. A major flaw in the traditional fashion system is the inexact matching of supply and demand. At Uniphorm we've developed a completely made-to-order pipeline with zero-waste manufacturing at the core of our production process. That means we never produce anything that would end up in a landfill (or set on fire).
We've spent four years developing our customization and custom fit production pipeline, and the Uniphorm Bra is the first product to launch with the results of that research. We've tested our product by wearing it and using it ourselves. That's how we know the Uniphorm Bra will last you 10X longer than your everyday bra.
