Our Story

In the 20th century, architectural design advanced by leaps and bounds by considering nature first. In the 21st century, Uniphorm is doing that for our bodies. Times have changed since 1889, but bras haven’t—until now.

BEYOND SIZING

Uniphorm isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s not many-sizes-fit-some (but nobody well). Uniphorm is: your bra fits you.  Because we made it from a scan of your actual body, designed with options to complement your natural beauty the way you choose.

We create your custom piece using computational architecture software from a 3d image you can easily scan in the privacy of your own home. Our core idea is simple: the best fit model for your garment is you, and Uniphorm’s technology makes this possible.

HOW IT STARTED

UNIPHORM started as an experiment to help a friend who felt so uncomfortable in her body that she was considering breast reduction surgery. We started working on custom pieces for friends with unique needs. We made a chest binder for someone who wanted to compress their naturally large breasts. We made bras to create the appearance of symmetry of one client who had a lot of asymmetry. That’s when we decided to expand our client-base.

Yasmina Khan, our founder, is an architect and computational designer with a background in engineering. In 2017 she designed custom furniture for Kanye West's Yeezy Studio with creative director Willo Perron. After many years designing custom things in furniture and architecture, Yasmina worked as a freelance creative director for Lizzo and Megan Thee Stallion. It was working with these women that inspired Yasmina to shift her focus to custom form-fitting garments.

"Before industrialization in fashion, we didn't buy clothes off the rack. Clothes were custom made for our bodies, so the idea that you have to be fitting into your clothes is absurd. The clothes should be fitting you. Clothes used to be made for our bodies."

WHAT ARE THE BRAS MADE OF?

Our 3D printing material is made from a non-porous biodegradable plastic. It feels like leather, but it's not made from animals.

TECHNOLOGY

We create your custom piece using artificial intelligence and a 3D image you can easily scan in the privacy of your own home. Our algorithms are continually updated. That means each new generation of products is improved by our clients’ data and feedback.

SUSTAINABILITY

The root of the problem in fashion is that manufacturing is still based on the inventory model and works on predicted demand. It's no secret that the industry's overproduction rate is staggering, ranging between 30 and 40 percent in any given season. A major flaw in the traditional fashion system is the inexact matching of supply and demand. At Uniphorm we've developed a completely made-to-order pipeline with zero-waste manufacturing at the core of our production process. That means we never produce anything that would end up in a landfill (or set on fire).
